English is an essential component of achieving the VCE, as students must satisfy the requirements of an English subject to be awarded the certificate. Studying English develops analytical, communication, and literacy skills as well as contributing to an individuals creative and critical thinking. Students develop their skills through studying a variety of texts, including novels, short stories, plays, films, poems and media texts.
